Top Pet Poisons

Each year the ASPCA manages hundreds of thousands of poison phone calls. An estimated 50% of those poisonings are from OTC and prescription human drugs. The following are the most common poisonous items to our pets:

1. Beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, and SSRI medications
2. Amphetamines (legal and illegal forms)
3. NSAIDS- non- steroidal anti-inflammatories (Think, Tylenol)
4. Pyrethrins- found in household insect sprays and insecticides
5. fuels, starter fluids, and solvents 
6. Human asthma inhalers 
7. Human cold and flu medications
8. Grapes and raisins
9. Xylitol- a natural sweetener commonly found in chewing gum, mouthwash, toothpaste, diabetic snacks, gum, mints, candy, and chewable vitamins
10. Food oxidizer packs such as in cookies, cereal, pasta, jerky, and rawhide packages
